MY GOAL

I want to help students discover their full potential through a mutual interest, music! Music has been such a light in my life and I want to bring that light into the lives of students. It is amazing watching the kids develop in different grade levels and see their various forms of expression when they understand a new lesson. From my time visiting various schools, I have learned that no student is the same so it is my goal to ensure that lessons are taught with flexibility so that every student can grasp the concepts in various ways.

ELEMENTARY

Elementary has always held a special place in my heart and that love for this grade level grew even more during my student teaching. I have had the pleasure of learning how to become a great teacher from Jennifer Prestridge at Gilbert Elementary for my practicum and Thomas Borden at Clyde Cox Elementary for my student teaching.

Since the pandemic has made it so everything is virtual, I have had to become creative with how I would get students to interact with our lessons. I had the pleasure of creating online manipulatives that can be used with students, mainly consisting of Google Slides.

SECONDARY

Secondary also holds a special place in my heart as it is where my dream of becoming a music educator began. I first entered college as a pshycology major but immediately knew that I was still going to be in choir. Eventually, I changed my major to music education. I want to be able to open that door of ideas for students and prepare them for that career both in music theory and through healthy singing if they choose to pursue it. Choir was always a safe space for me where I knew I was welcomed and I want to give that feeling to the students. I had the pleasure of learning how to run a successful choral program through choosing appropriate music to knowing where to place sections of a choir so that we get optimal sound to getting tips on how to be a listener for the students. I gained this knowledge Barry Isbell at Palo Verde High School for my practicum and Alexandra Edelman at Canarelli Middle School for student teaching. I just finished my first year of teaching middle school choir and am currently in the process of planning for year two!
